Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will raise their capital expenditure (capex) to support Malaysia’s transition to renewable energy. TNB’s controlled capex related to facilitating the energy transition is expected to increase from 12.3 per cent to 19.3 per cent, under the proposed Regulatory Period 3 (RP3) measures, thus, allowing further renewable energy incorporation into the system. The organisation intends to increase its investment in its grid infrastructure to assist the country’s energy transition to renewable sources.

As of March 2021, TNB had achieved 3,402MW of renewable energy capacity, with 2,736 MW from Malaysia and 666 MW from international. TNB aims to increase its overall renewable energy capacity to 8,300 MW by 2025.
