Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has announced plans for a capital expenditure (CAPEX) initiative for Regulatory Period 4 (RP4) from 2025 to 2027, aimed at supporting Malaysia’s energy transition and expected increase in electricity demand. This initiative aligns with a 230 MW hybrid hydro floating solar (HHFS) project, which is part of TNB’s broader strategy under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
TNB plans to deploy up to 230 MW of HHFS capacity at the Temenggor and Chenderoh hydro plants by 2025. Further, TNB is implementing large-scale renewable energy (RE) projects, including the HHFS, centralised large-scale solar (LSS) parks, and hydrogen and ammonia co-firing projects. These projects collectively aim to provide over 3,000 MW of RE capacity by 2040, with 2,500 MW from HHFS technology and 500 MW from LSS parks.
