Telekom Malaysia (TM) has secured a green electricity tariff (GET) from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), a state-owned utility firm, for three data centres in Malaysia. The data centers include Johor Baru’s Iskandar Puteri Core Data Centre (IPDC), Klang Valley Core Data Centre (KVDC) in Cyberjaya, and KL City Data Centre (CTDC) in Brickfields.

The green tariff is expected to offset approximately 19,134 metric tons of emissions, equivalent to 27 million kWh annually.  Additionally, the tariff will also reduce the environmental impact these data centres while maintaining the convenience, stability, and security of its data centre services for its clients, including private corporations to the public sector and global hyperscalers.

The Green Electricity Tariff is a Government of Malaysia initiative intended to aid the country reach its target of zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. Instead of fossil fuels, the tariff’s subscribers obtain their power from solar or hydropower sources.
