The Government of Sarawak has announced plans to increase the deployment of electric vehicle (EVs) in the Malaysian state between the period from 2030 to 2050. This is a part of the Government of Malaysia’s effort to transition away from internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles to vehicle that will be powered through electricity and hydrogen.

Currently the state doesn’t have many operational vehicles using hydrogen-based or electric engines although hybrid electric cars are more common. However, since Sarawak is one of the states leading the transition to a hydrogen economy in the Southeast Asia (SEA) region, this is expected to result in the development of new technologies that can boost the transition to alternative forms of transport in the future.
