State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura 1 plans to develop three new runways at the Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java, to accommodate the growing air traffic. At present, feasibility studies for the proposed facilities are ongoing. The construction of the new runways will be completed by 2017 and the runways will be fully operational one year thereafter. On average, Juanda airport serves 17.6 million passengers per annum (mppa). In 2018, the number of passengers is estimated to rise to 40 million.
