The World Bank has approved USD287.24 million in funding for the Philippines Digital Infrastructure Project. This initiative aims to provide PHP20 million with improved broadband connectivity that is both secure and resilient against climate-related risks. The project will focus on expanding the national fibre optic backbone, connecting key regions in Luzon and Mindanao, and extending broadband access to underserved areas across the country.
In addition to boosting connectivity, the project will focus on enhancing cybersecurity and using climate-resilient materials for infrastructure. Public institutions, including schools and hospitals, will also benefit from better internet access, especially in Eastern Mindanao, through the installation of free Wi-Fi access points.
