The Governments of Malaysia and Thailand have formalised an agreement to jointly fund and construct a second bridge alongside the existing link between Rantau Panjang and Sungai Kolok, with project completion expected in 2028. The RM40.54 million initiative includes the construction of a 117.3-metre bridge and upgrades to the current structure to enhance capacity and safety.

The project stems from the Joint Development Strategy (JDS) for Border Areas initiated in 2012, with Malaysia leading the bridge design, inspired by the traditional “Perahu” boat to reflect the cultural and geographic significance of Sungai Golok.
