The Government of Indonesia has announced plans to add 90 MW of geothermal power capacity with three new plants—PLTP Salak Binary in West Java, Blawan Ijen Unit 1 in East Java, and Sorik Marapi Unit 5 in North Sumatra—launching by the end of 2024.

This expansion aligns with Indonesia’s clean energy targets, with geothermal energy now comprising 5.3 per cent of its power mix. The Government of Indonesia has invested USD5.4 billion in geothermal development over the last decade and plans to leverage co-generation technology to further enhance energy efficiency and meet its 2060 renewable goals.
