Thales and SMRT Trains Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop and deploy digital technologies to improve rail maintenance and operations on Singapore’s North-South and East-West lines (NSEWL).

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will share expertise in multiple areas, as well as use digital technologies like data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to maximise the diagnostic data already accessible in existing signalling and rail systems. By mining train control, supervision, and radio communication diagnostic data, SMRT will be able to achieve economies in train and system maintenance.

Thales will also contribute its expertise in communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling and rail control systems, as well as best practices in data analytics technologies.
