Denmark-based Cowi has secured a contract from Nishimatsu Construction to design stations between the Tampines North and Defu section of the Cross Island Line (CRL) rail network in Singapore.

Works include boring of a 2.9 km tunnel, 300 metre long cut and cover tunnels, and the construction of a two-storey building with five basement levels that will provide electrical and mechanical services for the tunnels. Construction is scheduled to commence in June 2022.

The 50 km CRL, which is slated to open in 2030, will be Singapore’s longest totally underground line, carrying 600,000 passengers daily.
