The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has announced that the Chao Phraya River’s cable-stayed bridge is scheduled to open to passenger traffic in 2023. As of May 2022, works on the eight-lane bridge are over 72 per cent complete.

The 2 km bridge is part of the fourth contract for the expressway project, which includes Rama III, Dao Khanong, and the Western Outer Ring Road, and helps to connect Bangkok and Thailand’s western region.

The THB6.6 billion bridge project, which will run parallel to the Rama IX Bridge, is aimed to improve traffic flow, and designed to withstand high winds of 270 km/h. EXAT has contracted CH Karnchang Public Limited Company to undertake the bridge construction project under a 39-month construction schedule.
