The governments of Thailand and China have announced plans to develop a Thai-Chinese high speed rail (HSR) system. Initially, a priority section in Tambon Klang Dong of Nakhon Ratchasima’s Pak Chong district will be developed. It will span 3.5 km from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima, covering six stations. Tendering is expected to start in August 2016 and construction may begin in September 2016. Bidding will be open to Thailand-based firms and funding will be sourced from domestic agencies. The Thailand government has also finalised a plan to develop a 250 km HSR line from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima at an investment of 170 billion baht.
