Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has opened procurement for remanufacturing services to convert six 1300HP YDM 4 diesel-electric locomotives into battery-electric locomotives. The initiative aims to modernise existing rolling stock with cleaner, electric-powered alternatives. Interested bidders must submit their proposals by June 16, 2025.
The procurement reflects Myanmar’s push toward low-emission rail solutions despite ongoing infrastructure and economic challenges. The project is expected to reuse core components from the original fleet while incorporating battery electric systems through local or international technical partnerships.
