Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) will be conduct 5G trials in parts of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya along with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), ahead of a planned roll out of 5G network services in December 2021. This makes TM the first telecommunications operator to register for 5G trials. However, no details regarding the signing of a long-term deal for the use of the government’s 5G network have been made public.

The Government of Malaysia has authorised DNB, a subsidiary of the Minister of Finance, to be the single neutral entity responsible for the nationwide deployment of 5G infrastructure and network. By the end of December 2021, DNB plans to deploy 10 per cent of 5G coverage in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and Kuala Lumpur, with a total of 500 sites.
