The Government of Singapore plans to double the number of submarine cable landing sites in the country by 2033. Currently, there are around three landing sites and 26 subsea cables in Singapore. The move is expected to cost around USD7.4 billion and will be funded by the private sector.
Works to add more cables are also underway. Of the 14 submarine cable projects in the pipeline, some of the key ongoing projects include Echo, a direct cable between Singapore and the United States. The cable system is expected to come online in 2024. Another trans-Pacific cable, Bifrost, is also being developed by Meta, Keppel, and Telin.
