The Subic Bay Freeport has introduced 10 pure battery electric buses (PBEBs) as part of its broader strategy to become the Philippines’ first carbon-neutral economic zone. Delivered in May 2025 and road-tested later that month, the buses were deemed accessible and PWD-friendly. Manufactured by Xiamen King Long and procured via Golden Asia Automotive Builders, the units are expected to start regular service soon.

Supporting infrastructure includes EV fast chargers at the SBMA Maintenance and Transportation Department and an additional unit donated by the Department of Energy. The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) has also allocated PHP10 million to upgrade and build bus stops across residential, business, and recreational areas. The PBEB initiative forms part of SBMA’s broader plan to cut emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and achieve net-zero status by 2040.
