The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced an extension of the Red Line electric train to Ayutthaya and Nakhon Pathom. The existing 8.8-km-long stretch from Langsit to Rangsit Campus will be extended to Ayutthaya while the 14.8-km-long stretch from Dalim Cham to Saraya will be extended to Nakhon Pathom. 

Additionally, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced plans to transfer the ownership of two proposed electric rail projects to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) of Thailand. The two projects are the Gray Line (Watcharaphon–Thong Lor) and the Silver Line (Bang Na–Suvarnabhumi Airport).
