Star Telecom (Unitel), a joint venture (JV) of Laos-Asia Telecom and Vietnam’s Viettel Group, has launched its 4G network service in Vientiane, Laos. With a speed estimated to be ten times faster than that offered by 3G services, Star Telecom’s 4G service is expected to provide significant value additions to its customers such as high definition online television and high speed internet surfing. Since its inception in October 2009, Star Telecom has built a network of over 4,000 base transceiver stations, covering 95 per cent of Laos’s area. Currently, it has over 2.5 million subscribers, accounting for 49 per cent of Laos’s telecom market
