The State Railway of Thailand has set forth plans to electrify 500 km of the railway network in Bangkok. Estimated to cost THB 30 million per km, the electrification plan will be implemented in two phases. In each of the phases, 250 km of railway network will be electrified. In addition, the signalling system for the trains on this network will also be upgraded to European Train Control System Level I.

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand will issue bids for a LRT in Phuket in the third quarter of 2019-20. The LRT will be developed in two phases. Under the first phase, the LRT will stretch from the Phuket International Airport to the Chalong intersection, spanning 41.7 km with 21 stations. The first phase is expected to entail an investment of THB 34.83 billion. The construction work is expected to start in 2020 and be completed by 2023. The second phase entails construction of the LRT from Tha Noon to Muang Mai, spanning a total of 16.8 km.
