The Ministry of Transport of Malaysia has proposed special electricity tariffs for public transport operators to alleviate their financial burdens. The operators, including MRT, LRT, and Prasarana, are currently charged the same electricity rates as regular businesses, leading to high operating costs. The proposed special tariffs aim to reduce electricity expenses, which make up 30-35 per cent of the operating costs for these services.
This move will ease the financial pressure on public transport companies, promoting more sustainable transport options for Malaysia’s growing population.
