The Government of HCM City has approved a nearly VND7 billion technical assistance project funded by South Korea’s Knowledge Sharing Program to assess the creation of a metro operations and maintenance training centre. The project will run until December 31, 2025, with the Export-Import Bank of Korea overseeing disbursement.

Managed by Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Company Limited, the initiative will produce policy consultation reports to support the formal proposal for the training centre. This aligns with Vietnam’s growing urban rail ambitions: seven metro lines covering 355 km are slated for completion by 2035, and a total of 12 lines are planned. The metro network could eventually expand to nearly 1,000 km if plans for integrating Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau provinces materialise.
