Singapore’s LTA has awarded a S$749 million contract to a consortium of Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries and China-based CSR Qingdao Sifang to supply 91 four-car driverless train sets for the Thomson and Eastern Region lines of the MRT. Kawasaki will prepare the train design and CSR will manufacture and assemble the trains. The 30 km long underground Thomson Line will cover 22 stations. It will have six interchange stations that will link the East–West, North–South, Circle, and Downtown lines by 2021. The 21 km long Eastern Region Line will run parallel to the Thomson Line.
