Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a contract to a joint venture of Nishimatsu Construction Company Limited and Okumura Corporation Singapore Branch to design and construct twin bored tunnels of the Cross Island Line (CRL) Phase 2 project in Singapore. The contract, valued at approximately SGD 242 million, involves constructing tunnels between the West Coast station (CR18) and Jurong Lake District station (CR19). The contract includes the construction of twin bored tunnels, each extending 2.4 km. The construction is scheduled to commence in the last quarter of 2024.
CRL is the eighth mass rapid transit (MRT) line in Singapore. It is being developed in three phases, which will collectively span over 44 km. Phase 2 will span 15 km and cover six stations (all underground). Phase 2 is expected to be operational by 2032.
