Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the first civil engineering contract for the Downtown Line 2 Extension (DTL2e), marking the start of main construction works. The SGD326 million contract has been awarded to a joint venture between Woh Hup Engineering Pte Ltd and Underground Technology Engineering Construction Pte Ltd, covering the design and construction of tunnels between the future DE1 station and DE2 interchange station.
The scope includes three bored tunnels of about 1 km each, two mainline tunnels, a tunnel connection to Gali Batu Depot, and depot modification works. Tunnelling will be carried out at depths of up to 21 metres, passing beneath Sungei Kadut Avenue, Sungei Kadut Way and Woodlands Road, close to existing rail infrastructure and waterways. A cut-and-cover tunnel will also be constructed within Gali Batu Depot.
The DTL2 Extension will comprise three stations, including a new underground interchange at DE2, linked to the North–South Line between Yew Tee and Kranji. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q2 2026, with passenger services targeted to commence in 2035, improving rail connectivity in Singapore’s north-west and supporting access to the future Sungei Kadut Eco-District.
