The Land Transport Authority has awarded the final civil contract for the Downtown Line 2 Extension (DTL2e) to China Railway Tunnel Group Co. Ltd.. The contract, valued at approximately SGD199 million, covers the design and construction of tunnels linking Bukit Panjang station to the future DE1 station.
The scope of works includes the construction of twin bored tunnels, each around 1.8 km in length, running beneath Woodlands Road and existing infrastructure such as the Kranji Expressway flyover. The project will be executed within a constrained worksite due to its proximity to existing rail infrastructure.
To minimise disruption to ongoing rail operations, construction activities will be carefully coordinated with relevant agencies and the line operator, SBS Transit, with sensitive works scheduled during non-operating hours. Real-time monitoring of ground conditions and safety systems will also be implemented to ensure stability and operational safety throughout the construction phase.
Construction is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2026, with passenger services on the extension targeted to begin in 2035. Once completed, the extension will include three new stations and improve rail connectivity in Singapore’s north-western region.
