JTC Corporation has selected Univers and PacificLight Power as Thailand’s first district-level smart grid in the Punggol Digital District. The project, aimed at boosting energy efficiency and integrating renewable sources, will involve the installation of a smart grid powered by a battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar panels. Once operational, the system is projected to generate over 3,000 MWh of clean energy annually. Expected for completion in 2026, the grid will optimise energy management across the district, supporting real-time monitoring and allowing peak shaving to ensure continuous energy supply.

Through the smart grid, Punggol Digital District will also enable demand response, letting consumers adjust their electricity usage in response to time-based rates. Univers’ AI and IoT-powered platform will manage the grid, integrating it with JTC’s estate operating system to provide real-time insights and enable smart meter tracking. With this setup, residents and businesses in the district can interact with Singapore’s national electricity market, connect electric vehicles, and support new business models, including virtual power plants and vehicle-to-grid demonstrations. This project positions Punggol as a living lab for innovative energy solutions and aims for over 50 per cent improvement in energy efficiency across the district.
