A consortium comprising Thales and River Engineering has completed the deployment of European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 across 48 stations of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) lines.
The modernisation programme commenced in 2019 and the automatic train protection (ATP) system will cover stations around Bangkok, from Lop Buri in the north, Nakhon Pathom in the south, and Map Kabao in the northeast. More than 1,000 Lineside Electronic Units (LEU)and over 3,000 balises have been installed as a part of the project.
The upgrade will improve safety while increasing reliability and capacity across the rail network, improving the experience of around 130,000 daily passengers on the lines.
