SembWaste, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has received approval from Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) to acquire Veolia Environmental Services Singapore (VESS). In January 2020, SembWaste had entered into an agreement with VESS to purchase its entire stake in the firm for SGD 28 million. As part of its assessment of the deal, CCCS conducted public consultation with around 70 key stakeholders including competitors and consumers. It also contacted the National Environment Agency that regulates waste collection services in Singapore.
