The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore has granted conditional approval (CA) to Sembcorp Utilities to import 1.2 GW of electricity, primarily wind power, from Vietnam starting in 2033. The imports will account for 10 per cent of Singapore’s annual electricity demands. The power will be transmitted through a new 1,000 km network of subsea cables.

The initiative is in line with the Government of Singapore’s goal of importing up to 4 GW of low-carbon electricity by 2035, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of the country’s total energy needs.
