Developers of the South East Asia Hainan – Hong Kong Express Cable System (SEA-H2X) project announced that the subsea cable system is expected to be ready for commercial service in 2024. The developers of the project includes China Mobile International Limited (CMI), China Unicom Global, Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions (Converge ICT) and PPTEL SEA H2X.

The SEA-H2X will connect Hong Kong, Hainan, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The cable system is also expected to cover Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia in the future. HMN Technologies has been contracted to undertake the design, manufacturing and deployment of the system.

The 5,000 km subsea cable system will consist of at least eight fibre pairs between Hong Kong and Singapore and will have a design capacity of 160 TB/s to fulfil the SEA’s increasing bandwidth demands.
