Malaysia-based Sarawak Energy was recognised as the “Utility of the Year – Malaysia”, in the prestigious Asian Power Awards 2014. The honour came in recognition of the company’s continuous efforts to enhance and drive the development of clean and renewable energy in the state of Sarawak and for the massive transformation experienced by the company over the recent years.

Since 2009, Sarawak Energy has embarked on a transformation journey to become a modern and agile corporation. The transformation, which includes the position of its brand, restructuring its organisation, expanding and developing manpower resources,  and enhancing customer service, has seen significant results being achieved.

Over the past four years, Sarawak Energy has recorded an increase in sales by 70 per cent and manpower by 50 per cent, improved its reliability to customers by 25 per cent, reduced power theft by 50 per cent, and increased its rural electricity coverage from 65 per cent to 80 per cent.

As the growth catalyst of the state’s SCORE agenda, Sarawak Energy is committed towards harnessing abundantly available hydroelectricity resources in a sustainable manner, compliant with Sarawak and Malaysian law and guided by international best practices.

The Asian Power Awards aim to set a benchmark for corporate excellence in the power industry. Currently in their 10th year, the awards have recognised top achievers, best practices, and innovations in Asia. Among the categories of awards were “Power Retailer of the Year (Singapore)”, “Smart Grid Project of the Year (Singapore)”, “Coal Power Project of the Year (India)”, “Transmission and Distribution Project of the Year (Hong Kong)”, “Independent Power Producer of the Year”, and “CEO of the Year”.
