Sarawak-based bus operator Biaramas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan-based HighChem to advance hydrogen-powered transport in the state in Malaysia. The partnership aims to promote the use of hydrogen in the public transport sector, aligning with Sarawak’s broader strategy to develop a clean-energy economy.
The agreement will cover collaboration on hydrogen production, refuelling infrastructure, and the integration of hydrogen fuel cell buses into Biaramas’ fleet. It builds on Sarawak’s existing investments in hydrogen mobility, including pilot hydrogen bus services and plans for larger-scale deployment across Kuching and other urban areas. HighChem will provide technical expertise and support for developing supply chains to ensure reliable hydrogen distribution.
