The Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore is being developed as part of a broader integrated mobility network, rather than a standalone cross-border rail service. The project aims to seamlessly connect with existing and future public transport systems across Johor Bahru.
According to Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd, integration has been a core principle since the project’s inception. The RTS Link will connect with a planned Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) system at Bukit Chagar, where a dedicated station site has already been identified.
Bukit Chagar is being developed into a major multimodal transport hub through collaboration between national and state agencies. The hub will integrate rail, bus, and pedestrian infrastructure, with direct connections to KTM Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) via elevated walkways to improve passenger distribution and accessibility.
To strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity, more than 250 additional buses are expected to be deployed by 2027. Supporting infrastructure will include pedestrian bridges, park-and-ride facilities, and links to surrounding developments such as Johor Bahru Sentral and nearby commercial zones.
The RTS Link is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2026, although transit-oriented development (TOD) works at Bukit Chagar are expected to continue beyond the rail system’s opening. Authorities noted that clear passenger information and traffic management will be essential during this transition phase.
