Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) plans to add more than 300 buses, including 100 electric buses, to Rapid Bus’ transport fleet in 2024. The company has allocated RM180 million for the deployment of the e-buses. Of the 100 e-buses to be deployed, 45 will be mini e-buses (seven to eight metres long) while 55 will be large buses (10 to 12 metres long).

Prasarana will launch tenders for the buses in 2023, which will also include upgrading station infrastructure as well as installing electric cables at depots for charging the vehicles.

Rapid Bus, a subsidiary of Rapid KL, currently has a fleet of 1,540 buses operating in Klang Valley, Penang and Kuantan. In April 2022, the company commenced trials for e-buses on the routes between Damai Perdana to Lebuh Pudu Hub and Taman Desa to the Pasar Seni Hub.
