Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), Eni and Euglena Company Limited have partnered to explore the feasibility of building and operating a biorefinery facility at the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Malaysia. The partners are currently conducting technical and economic feasibility studies for the facility. The final investment decision (FID) is expected to be reached by 2023 with operations commencing in 2025.
The facility will be able to produce around 12,500 barrels of biofuels daily. This covers the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), bio-naphtha as well as hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) for use on cars, diesel-powered trains, and marine transportation.
