Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) will open its autonomous shuttle service in Punggol to the public starting April 1, 2026, marking a key step in integrating autonomous vehicles into the country’s public transport network. The service will initially offer free rides before introducing a flat fare of SGD4 from mid-2026. Passengers will be able to access the service through registration via the Grab platform.
The autonomous shuttle trial began in September 2024 and operated across two routes, recording around 740 riders during the testing phase. Feedback from participants indicated positive experiences, with 99 per cent stating they would recommend the service. The shuttles are designed to improve last-mile connectivity and have been reported to reduce travel times by up to 15 minutes for some commuters.
A third autonomous shuttle route is also under development, with vehicles operated by ComfortDelGro undergoing familiarisation trials. Authorities are considering expanding autonomous vehicle services to other locations, including Sentosa, Tuas and Mandai, if the Punggol rollout proves successful.
Separately, the government announced plans to deploy fast-charging hubs for electric vehicles in every Housing and Development Board town by the end of 2027, each equipped with at least six charging points. A four-tier training pathway for EV technical specialists has also been introduced to strengthen workforce capacity in electric vehicle maintenance and support the transition toward electric and autonomous mobility.
