Work on the Orange Line western section project in Bangkok has been halted due to legal disputes. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has also announced that this delay is likely to push back the opening date of the eastern section. Passenger service on the eastern part of the Orange Line, between the Thailand Cultural Centre and Min Buri, is scheduled to commence in August 2025, while that on the western section, between Thailand Cultural Centre and Taling Chan, is expected to commence in December 2027.

Contract for works was recently awarded to Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Limited Company (BEM), however, MRTA hasn’t signed the contract since lawsuits challenging the bids have not been settled.

The Orange Line will include 27 km of underground section as well as 8.9 km section that will be elevated. The 22.57 km eastern section is currently under construction.
