Alstom has secured a contract from Mitsubishi Corporation to deploy advanced signalling systems on the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) extension. This is the first time that European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) level 2 will be used in Southeast Asia. Additionally, Alstom will also oversee system integration, telecommunication, power supply, automated fare collection (AFC) system and install platform doors. Colas Rail will be responsible for track laying and overhead contact line system.

The NSCR-Ex project includes works on two extension lines, comprising the 51 km North extension from Malolos to Clark International Airport, and the 55 km South extension from Solis to Calamba. The extension will include the construction of 27 stations. It is one of the major infrastructure projects under the Government of the Philippines’ Build, Build, Build programme.
