The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has revised the berthing guidelines at Manila’s North Port, also known as North Harbor, as the terminal will soon initiate full commercial operations. The new guidelines, effective September 24, 2013, will be applicable to vessels calling at North Port from Isla Putting Bato, Piers 2 to 16, Marine Slipway, and the anchorage areas of North Harbor. Under the new rules, idle vessels will not be allowed to use the berths at the port. The management and allocation of berths and the shifting of vessels inside North Harbor and at the inner breakwater will be the responsibility of North Port’s operator Manila North Harbour Port, Inc. Meanwhile, PPA will be responsible for berths at the anchorage areas outside North Harbor. The port authority will continue to issue clearances for the entry and departure of vessels. The new rules are designed to enhance the efficiency of the utilisation of the berths at the port.
