Philippines-based telecom operator Globe Telecom has completed the roll-out of a submarine fibre optic network in Palawan, Philippines. The 400 km undersea cable network serves as a system for transmission of telecom services between the province and the main island of Luzon, thus enhancing Palawan’s connectivity with the country and the rest of the world. The undersea cable system that is designed to transmit 40 wavelengths at 40 Gbps capacity per fibre pair can be upgraded to a 100 Gbps DWDM system, hence enabling the company to accommodate future traffic growth. The Palawan cable system with a total transmission capacity of 19.2 Tbps supports LTE services as well. The transmission upgrade in Palawan is a part of Globe Telecom’s $700 million network transformation initiative.
