Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) will invest RM750 million to expand its cargo capacity from 11.5 million TEU to 12.5 million TEU by June 2022. In addition to the planned yard expansion, the port will also receive 18 new quayside and yard cranes. An additional berth will be added nearby Berth 1 to increase cargo footprint to and from Sumatra.
Landside equipment such as Electrified Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes and Prime Movers will be added to the port. Aside from that, the project will also improve existing infrastructure as well as enhance terminal efficiency and operations through digitisation and automation.
During 2021, PTP recorded total cargo volumes of up to 11.2 million TEU, making it Malaysia’s first port to exceed 11 million TEU in a single year. It also recorded a 14 per cent growth in its yearly volume during the same period.
