PLM Power, a subsidiary of PacificLight Power, has started construction of a 670 MW hydrogen-ready power plant on Jurong Island, Singapore. The USD938 million facility will integrate a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) to improve grid resilience and provide flexibility in electricity supply management. Commercial operations are targeted for 2029.
The facility will initially support hydrogen co-firing of up to 30 per cent by volume, with plans to transition to 100 per cent hydrogen. Mitsubishi Power and Jurong Engineering are delivering the engineering, procurement and construction contract, with the plant using Mitsubishi Power’s M701JAC gas turbine and combined-cycle efficiency exceeding 64 per cent. The project will complement PacificLight’s existing 830 MW combined-cycle gas turbine plant and 100 MW Fast Start Ancillary Services facility on Jurong Island.
