PLDT Incorporated and its subsidiary Smart Communications (Smart) have deployed the Philippine’s first lightweight carbon fibre towers on building rooftops. Carbon fibre towers are more lightweight than steel towers making them suitable to installed on urban rooftops and are compliant with the carbon fibre towers. These lightweight structures are easier to transport, composed of non-corrosive materials, and require no maintenance. Carbon fibre will also help PLDT and Smart decrease their environmental footprints by reducing land usage.
The fibre towers also have the ability to support the LTE and 5G rollout. As of March 2021, PLDT had a fibre infrastructure of over 478,000 km.
