Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) of Indonesia has announced plans to develop bus rapid transit (BRT) systems in 20 cities as part of its 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
Initial focus is on Batam, Pekanbaru, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Makassar. The initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance public transport services, with support from international partners like GIZ. Local governments, alongside central support, play a key role in driving this development forward.
