The Provincial Government of Thua Thien Hue has announced plans to develop the 4,800 MW Chan May LNG power plant from 2031 to 2035, costing USD2.4 billion. Serving as a backup for delayed energy projects, its implementation depends on gas extraction progress from the Ken Bau field.

The plant will be located in the Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone, the independent power project involves a 60 per cent U.S. stake and a 40 per cent stake in Vietnam, with annual output projected at 24–25 billion kWh. The plant is part of Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII. Vietnam’s first LNG-to-power plants, Nhon Trach 3 and 4, will operate in 2025.
