Philippines’ Smart Communications Incorporated (Smart) will roll out SerEnergy’s fuel cell sites in the challenged grid areas across the nation from the second quarter of 2021 till the end of the year. This project is in line with the Government of Philippines’ announcement in 2020 that it will not accept further proposals to build new coal power plants under the Energy Conservation and Efficiency Act, 2019.

Denmark’s SerEnergy will install 90 methanol-based fuel cell sites in off grid or poorly connected regions. The methanol based technology can be combined with any source of renewable energy to result a sustainable system. The cells are nearly emission free and produce much lower carbon than other alternatives. It is also more cost effective with very low rate of degradation over the long run and methanol is more stable than gasoline making fuel cells safer.

The roll out of these sites will enable  to transition to sustainable energy solutions and provide stable connectivity to more communities.
