The Department of Transportation (DoTr) has announced plans to convert Laguindingan Domestic Airport in the Philippines into an international airport by 2025. The project is expected to cost PHP32.3 million.
Aboitiz InfraCapital Incorporation, a unit of the Aboitiz Group will upgrade, operate, and maintain the new airport at an investment of PHP12.75 billion as approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). As a part of the project, the pre-departure area will increase from 743 square metres to 1,463 square metres and the passenger capacity will also increase from 500 to 860 passengers/airline.
Further, the project will undergo a Swiss challenge process in which DOTr will invite other parties to challenge the proposal of Aboitiz.
