The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has allocated around PHP932.82 million to construct 470 km of new bicycle lanes across the Philippines during 2023 in an attempt to promote active transportation in the country. The new lanes will be located in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Davao Region.
Work has already commenced on the lanes in San Fernando, Pampanga. The DOTr has allocated PHP78.36 million to build 37.5 km of new bike lanes in the city.
By 2028, the DOTr plans to add 2,400 km of bike lanes across the Philippines.
