The Department of Energy (DOE) is aiming for all electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Philippines to run fully on renewable energy by 2040. Under the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI), the DOE has set a nearer-term target of sourcing at least 25 per cent of EV charging power from renewable sources by 2030.

This move aligns with the government’s broader clean energy goals. A new DOE issuance on charging infrastructure, effective September 6, 2025, will allow providers to tap renewable power either through onsite generation or existing government programs.

Despite earlier targets of 7,000 charging points by 2020, the current network stands at just over 1,000. Industry stakeholders, including the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), are calling for faster expansion to meet growing demand. EVAP President Edmund Araga emphasised that a reliable charging network is key to building consumer trust in EV adoption.
