The Department of Energy (DOE) has requested a budget of PHP3.8 billion for 2026, a 24 per cent increase from PHP3.1 billion in 2025, to accelerate electrification and clean energy programs. The proposal supports the country’s commitment to achieve nationwide 100 per cent electrification by the end of his term.

Under the 2026 National Expenditure Program, PHP500 million has been earmarked for the total electrification project, alongside PHP6.4 billion for the national rural electrification program. The DOE’s renewable energy development program is set to receive PHP198 million, up 15.7 per cent from 2025. In addition, PHP460 million has been allocated for the alternative fuels and energy technology program, which prioritises research on electric vehicles, liquefied petroleum gas, and compressed natural gas.

These allocations are designed to strengthen the country’s energy transition and help achieve the target of 35 per cent renewable energy in the power mix by 2030. The budget proposal will be reviewed by the House appropriations committee.
